Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect at The Speech Shack?
The Speech Shack is a boutique-style speech therapy practice that specializes in assessing and treating speech and language disorders. Speech therapy is highly individualized to meet your child’s specific needs. Your child's interests are incorporated to provide fun and engaging speech therapy. We value collaboration with parents/caregivers and provide parent coaching/home activities to facilitate progress and carryover.
What ages do you work with?
The Speech Shack provides speech therapy to children ages 2-12. Children older than 12 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
When are therapy sessions offered?
Therapy sessions are offered Monday-Friday. Both daytime and afterschool/evening time slots are available to best fit your family’s schedule.
Does my child need an evaluation before starting speech therapy?
All new clients are required to have a speech/language evaluation to determine an appropriate treatment plan. If your child has had a speech/language evaluation in the past 6 months by another provider, this can be used to determine a treatment plan. If your child has a current IEP with a speech/language impaired eligibility, this can also be used to determine a treatment plan in lieu of an evaluation.
What does a speech therapy session look like?
Sessions are usually 30 minutes long and are recommended 1-3 times per week depending on your child’s specific needs. Evidence-based therapy practices are used during therapy sessions. Sessions will be fun and enjoyable for your child!
Do you offer virtual speech therapy services?
Teletherapy is offered to clients in Florida. During our initial consultation/evaluation, it will be determined if this is an appropriate option for your child.
What can I do while my child is receiving speech therapy?
You are always welcome to sit in on sessions. You are also welcome to wait outside in any of the seating areas on the property.
How long will my child need speech therapy?
Every child is different! Some kids may “graduate” in just a few months, and others may require a few years. Factors including the severity of speech/language disorder and completion of home carryover activities play a role in the duration of therapy needed. Parents/caregivers will receive frequent updates on progress and the treatment plan.
Do you take insurance?
The Speech Shack is an out-of-network provider. Payment is due after services are provided. A superbill will be given to you for evaluation/services provided. You can submit this superbill to your insurance company for possible reimbursement for out-of-network services. It is highly recommended that you check with your insurance company to determine what out-of-network speech services are included in your plan. A doctor's referral is not needed for an evaluation/services at The Speech Shack.

What forms of payment are accepted for evaluations/speech therapy?
You will set up an account through Simple Practice to complete payments. All major debit/credit cards are accepted. HSA (health savings accounts) and FSA (flexible spending accounts) can also be used. The card on file will be billed through the secure client portal, and you will receive an electronic invoice as receipt of payment.
How much does an evaluation/therapy cost at The Speech Shack?
A speech/language evaluation costs $300. A full written report will be provided including case history, informal observations, formal assessment results, and recommendations. Speech therapy sessions are $65/per 30 minute session and $130/per 60 minute session.
How will my child’s records be maintained?
The Speech Shack uses Simple Practice. Simple practice is an easy-to-use, HIPAA-compliant software where all records are maintained. In addition, you will be able to use the Client Portal in Simple Practice to view upcoming therapy sessions, pay invoices, receive text reminders, and send messages to The Speech Shack.
